Over the age of 55 years old, I am a free parent, I can actually move on with my life; I have an empty nest and start to really live, to travel the world or to sleep in, to cook or go out to eat. I have nothing to worry for all my children are older and have moved away from home. I am completely done with my responsibility of parenting for all of my children are adults. I have finished raising three children who now are capable of making their own decisions, are supporting them or married, are parents themselves… I am done parenting, right!! Wrong! We must continue to parent our adult children. We parent as adult-to-adult, with facts and showing evidence of the matter. In my opinion, it is way easier to parent a child for children trust and believe parents. As adults we think we know it all, and parents are old and out of style is the mind set of many of our adult children. To be able to parent this set mind; we as parents must come down our high horse and walk in their shoes, see threw their eyes, and feel their hurt and when this is achieve we are able to connect and they will be able to hear our words and only if they decide will they listen to what we have to say. As parents of adult children we have one thing to do… lets make sure we live what we are trying to parent, for our own actions, our own daily living is teaching louder then what we have to say to our adult child.

Teaching for over 18 years at Kenosha Unified School District as an ESL teacher, it fulfills my heart teaching ESL students in small group instruction. After teaching to the student I enjoy teaching to the parent. I have over 15 years’ experience researching parenting resources in Spanish and teaching parenting modules in a friendly school setting at a school or in the community. Teaching parents have taken me to work over 8 years at Gateway Technical College Communication Spanish GED classes. I have seen the empowerment of education over and over in families in our community that has transformed their lives by improving their parenting skills as well as their general education.
